Delicious Recipes Your Kids Will Actually Eat
Apr 03, 2018

As a mom, you probably know that children can be picky eaters. As they grow, their taste buds rapidly change. Hence why they love something one day and hate it the next. For mothers, this can be incredibly frustrating. How can we get our kids to consume a variety of foods that provide the recommended amount of nutrition while keeping tantrums to a minimum (or at least over the color of the plate and not the type of food) and maintaining our sanity? Worry a little less and give these recipes a try.

Cheese Peas

Does your child love cheese? It's no secret that cheese wins over even the pickiest eaters when you add it to things they usually wouldn't touch. This recipe is straightforward, can be made with a variety of meals, and affordable. If you're lucky, you can swap it with the beloved macaroni and cheese.

Ingredients:

  • 1 can of peas (frozen peas can work, just thaw them before adding to other ingredients)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Pepper (to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 tablespoons of flour
  • 3/4 cup of milk
  • 1/2 a cup of cubed Velveeta cheese

You can double the recipe to fit your family's demands, just be sure to increase every ingredient accordingly.

Preparation Instructions:

  • Melt the butter over the low heat setting in a medium-sized saucepan.
  • Slowly stir in the flour, salt, and pepper until creamy.
  • Gradually add the milk and bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Blend the mixture until thick. That should take about two minutes.
  • Add cheese and stir until melted.
  • Stir in peas and cook until done.

Let the dish cool and serve with optimism and determination.

Meatloaf Burgers

Meatloaf is a dish that has been around for ages. It has the power to incorporate a lot of healthy and tasty things into one bite although children may disagree. A creative way of getting them to eat it is to disguise it in a burger form. If your kids watch a lot of SpongeBob, you can even call it a "krabby patty."

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs of ground beef
  • Half a tablespoon of salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  • 1 yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 cup of breadcrumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon of A1 Steak Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of ketchup
  • 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese

Preparation Instructions:

  • Blend every ingredient except the cheese in a large bowl.
  • Mix ingredients thoroughly. Make patties out of the mixture.
  • Cook patties in a frying pan over medium heat until completely cooked.
  • Top patties with the 1 cup of shredded cheese.

Once cooled, burgers can be served with or without a bun and topped with favorite sauces.

Getting children to eat can be challenging, but hopefully, these recipes will be a favorite in your household. They are easy to make and will have your taste buds going crazy. The best part is they are an appealing twist on familiar dishes that you might typically struggle to get your children even to try.
