There is a fascinating place in Madera, CA called the Fossil Discovery Center. It is a wonderful museum located next to the Fairmead Landfill. The landfill is host to one of the largest Mid-Pleistocene fossil excavations in North America. The kids got to explore the museum, see the Pleistocene Pond where native vegetation is grown, and even do a "mock dig" to find their own fossils! The Fossil Discovery Center represents an opportunity for Valley residents to share an internationally important historical resource that will help them understand their world and will inspire many of them to continue exploring and learning. |
