The kids were able to learn how early Native Americans lived and worked, including the farm work and harvest which ties in with our Fall themes of the month. The kids made Native American Handprints, which was a favorite activity this week. They also learned the importance of taking turns with the introduction of the ever popular "talking stick". While each school had a different version of this the concept was the same - whoever was holding the talking stick was the only person allowed to talk and everyone else must give them respect and listen to his or her words. Each child got a turn to talk and hold the stick. One of the most important lessons that was learned this week was how the Native Americans worked together to help everyone in their tribe. It was a great lesson on respect and community, which will continue next week as we learn about Early American Pilgrims. |
